Sometimes burnout doesn’t look like a meltdown.
Sometimes it’s just sighing 37 times before noon or realizing your to-do list has somehow turned into a personality trait.
Sometimes you’re just... tired of being a person.
When I hit that point, I don’t force myself to rally.
I give myself a soft reset instead.
Nothing fancy. Just small rituals that say:
Hey, I see you. Let’s breathe.
Here are a few of mine:
-
Light a candle. Because if I can’t fix everything, I can at least make it smell like grapefruit and hope.
-
Reclaim the next 20 minutes. No phone. No productivity. Just a reset. I might journal, wash my face, or sit outside and do nothing with intention.
-
Change the soundtrack. Sometimes a playlist with exactly zero lyrics or the soft clink of dishes in the sink is what brings me back to earth.
I used to think I had to “earn” rest.
Now I know that burnout is what you get when you believe that.
If you’re feeling frayed, you’re not alone.
You don’t have to overhaul your life—you can start with something small and sensory.
Even something as simple as lighting a candle.
Here are a few that help me reset:
