As we wind down 2024, I wanted to take a moment to savor the scents that have done the wonderful job of filling our homes and hearts this year. As a candle brand owner for almost 4 years, I've noticed many trends come and go in the industry.
I've had the privilege of being able to play with scents far and wide and I absolutely love seeing the ebbs and flows of the popularity of some scents. From cozy classics to fresh, invigorating fragrances, 2024 has been a year of olfactory delights. Here's a recap of what I've found to be the most popular candle scents that have taken the world by storm this year:
Nostalgia-Inducing Favorites
Vanilla: The timeless comfort of vanilla continues to be a top choice, offering a warm and inviting ambiance. If you're looking for nostalgia, vanilla-scented candles tend to be a safe bet.
Lavender: A soothing and relaxing scent, lavender has been a go-to for stress relief and better sleep for hundreds (if not thousands) of years. If you're in the mood to relax, lavender tends to be the scent to calm the mood in any space.
Cinnamon: The spicy, warm notes of cinnamon bring the comforting feeling of the holiday season all year round. Anything with cinnamon or spice tends to really get the senses going and is especially loved around the holidays at the end of the year.
Fresh and Modern Scents
Clean Cotton: A crisp and clean scent that evokes the feeling of freshly laundered linens. If you're just looking for fresh, clean cotton does it every time. I actually had a beautiful clean cotton scent in grad school (before I was a candlemaker) that I actually adored!
Ocean Breeze: Transport yourself to the seaside with this refreshing and airy fragrance. Any candle with an ocean breeze is perfect to have in any coastal space.
Citrus: Brighten up your space with the zesty and invigorating scents of lemon, orange, and grapefruit. Citrus really brightens the mood of any room!
Trendy and Unique Scents
Gourmand: Indulge your senses with decadent scents like caramel, chocolate, and cake batter. I absolutely love any cake batter scent!
Woodsy: Immerse yourself in nature with earthy and smoky fragrances like cedarwood and sandalwood. There's nothing like a good, deep scent to really open the space in your home.
Floral: Elevate your space with the delicate and romantic scents of rose, jasmine, and peony. Floral scents are my absolute favorite and I think that I will forever be a floral girly!
